Emmaus Gatherings

As Christians we are called to fellowship, to love one another as Christ has loved us and to build up the Body of Christ. One of the ways we can do this is through our Emmaus Gatherings. If you have been to one, you know the excitement of seeing again some of the friends you made on your walk, the fun of singing familiar songs, the joy of worship and communion together and the blessing of hearing what God is doing in someone’s life.

We normally meet at White Plains UMC in Cary (unless otherwise noted), from 7:30 to 9:00 PM on the fourth Friday of every other month (unless there is a Walk weekend being held). Baby sitting for children 7 and under is available. On the months we do not have a community-wide Gathering we urge community members to attend the satellite Gatherings in your area.

Please make an effort to join us – and bring along a friend, the Gatherings are open to everyone!

Our community Gatherings also provide another opportunity for you to serve. At each Gathering we need several people to lead parts of our evening. Please consider all of the following and sign up or give us a call.

Moderator – The moderator keeps the evening flowing and sets the tone for our worship. You welcome the community, recognize our first time visitors and introduce the other members of the evening team. It is a very easy job, with almost no preparation required.

Fourth Day Speaker – The fourth day speaker shares a short talk (ten minutes) about God’s action in their life. This is not a sermon or an “Emmaus talk.” Rather, it is a first person sharing which will cause others to reflect on God’s presence and call in their own lives.

Music Leader – As music leader, you will lead about 15 minutes of group singing from the Heart of Carolina song book. You will present two special songs, one before and one after the Fourth Day talk. You will also lead us during communion and a closing song.

Refreshment Coordinator – You get a group of people from your church family or reunion group to bring drinks, snacks and baked goods. We provide paper goods and ice.

Setup – This is a great project for a reunion group. All you need to do is come at 6:30 to set up chairs and tables and pass out announcements and song sheets.

Our Gatherings are held at 7:30 pm on the Fourth Friday of every other month (unless a Walk weekend is being held) at
